Students' Academic Success is Celebrated
“With the Jobstart course, I started to learn at a pace that suited me, I grew in confidence and slowly but surely achieved my FETAC Certification Level 4.” These are the words of Hilary Russell, a student of National Learning Network in Letterkenny, speaking at a certification event held on Monday (13 May 2013) in the Radisson Blu Hotel.Over 100 students were presented with certificates by Paul Hannigan, President of neighbouring educational facility, Letterkenny Institute of Education.
Students were presented with certificates in a range of courses that support people in entering into or returning to employment. These include vocational courses such as IT/Business Studies, Jobstart and Employer Based Training, as well as rehabilitative programmes Access and Advance. Students who completed the FÁS Healthcare Assistant Traineeship and ECDL courses which were delivered by National Learning Network tutors also received their certification .
National Learning Network’s centre in Rossview Business Park on Port Road in Letterkenny currently offers training opportunities to more than 100 people from throughout Donegal, who may have been finding it difficult to access further education, training and employment. National Learning Network is very successful in supporting people to take the next steps in their lives. More than 90% of students who complete their training course go on to employment or further training or education.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Paul Hannigan, President, Letterkenny Institute of Education said, “Today marks an important milestone for these students. Through their hard work and dedication, their nationally-recognised qualifications will provide a valuable stepping stone to further training, education or employment. It’s a credit to National Learning Network’s approach to training and employment that more than 90% of the people receiving certificates here today will progress to further education, training or employment in the region.”
Mura Herron, Area Manager of National Learning Network in Letterkenny, said “This is a great a day for everyone who is receiving these nationally-recognised awards, which reward the hard work that all of our students have put into developing their skills during their time with us. It is great to see so many of our students employed locally in Donegal in jobs that we hope they will enjoy and progress in, and others fulfilling ambitions for further training and study. All of the staff are very proud of their achievements and we wish each student well for the future.”
