As a school leaver I have lived through the world been told what to do every day, now I am an independent person, I make my decisions and with the help of National Learning Network I have fortified my independence, strengthened my resolve and protected my rights.” These are the words of David King, a student of National Learning Network in the Jutland Centre in Limerick, speaking at a certification event held today in the Clarion Hotel. Over 40 students were presented with certificates by Jan O’Sullivan TD, Minister of State, Dept of Environment, Community and Local Government.

Students were presented with certificates from subjects in courses that support people in entering into or returning to employment. These include Art and Design, Information Technology, Health and Fitness, Personal and Interpersonal Skills, Career Preparation, Personal Care and Presentation, Stress Management, Horticulture, Digital Photography and Self Advocacy.

National Learning Network has two types of training in the Mid-West region, rehabilitative training and vocational training. The Jutland Centre offers training opportunities to more than 40 people from throughout the region, who may have been finding it difficult to access further education, training and employment. National Learning Network is very successful in supporting people to take the next steps in their lives. More than 90% of students who complete their training course go on to employment or further training or education

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Jan O’Sullivan TD, Minister of State, Dept of Environment, Community and Local Government said, “I am delighted to be here at today’s presentation of awards. I would like to congratulate each and every one of the students on their achievements. It’s a credit to National Learning Network’s approach to training and employment that more than 90% of the people receiving certificates here today will progress to further services, education, training or employment in the region.”

Lisa Haugh, Area Manager of National Learning Network in Limerick, said “This is a great day for everyone who is receiving these nationally-recognised awards, which reward the hard work that all of our students have put into developing their skills during their time with us. It is great to see so many of our students fulfilling ambitions for further training and study and to see them living more independent and fulfilling lives within their own communities. All of the staff are very proud of their achievements and we wish each student well for the future.”
